The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for all of Western New York outside of Southern Erie and Wyoming counties. This advisory will be in place until 1 pm on Friday. Up to 9 inches of snow is possible, and wind gusts of 40 miles per hour will impact your morning and evening commutes.
On Sunday, City of Buffalo and Erie County leaders outlined their plans to keep residents safe as a significant winter storm moves into Western New York.
Syracuse, N.Y. — Lake effect snow continues to dump on Upstate New York. On Thursday, multiple crashes in heavy snow shut down the state Thruway’s westbound lanes near Buffalo for hours. Snow and poor visibility contributed to a massive pileup of 37 vehicles south of Syracuse.
There is a Cold Weather Advisory in place for most of Western New York. The advisory is starting at 10 pm tonight and will continue until 1 pm on Tuesday afternoon. Temperatures will drop into the single digits, with wind chills dropping down to as cold as -25 degrees.
Monroe County and the City of Rochester both declared a state of emergency early Sunday afternoon as a massive winter storm bears down on New York. The winter storm is already underway and expected to bring heavy snow and subzero temperatures to New York.
