A new tropical depression in the Gulf is expected to quickly strengthen to a hurricane and it could be headed for Alabama. The National Hurricane Center initiated advisories -- and the all-important track maps -- on Tropical Depression Nine on Tuesday afternoon.

Hurricane tracker: Nolo is no longer a hurricane. The powerful storm remains about as strong, but it changed names to a typhoon as it crossed the international dateline in the Pacific Ocean. Hurricane Rachel continued heading westward on a path away from Mexico.
