Trump had reopened old wounds by insisting that the United States should control Greenland, a semiautonomous Danish territory.

President Trump renewed his call for the US to control Greenland and threatened to remove soldiers from Europe as the NATO summit in Turkey began.

NATO fell into a crisis earlier this year as Trump demanded that the U.S. must take control of Greenland on national security grounds.

Speaking alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Ankara, Donald Trump accused Spain of failing to contribute adequately to the alliance.
