Hiss and make up? 🐍👊 Not an option for these feisty Mulga Snakes, seen fighting for well over an hour at our Scotia Wildlife Sanctuary. More info: www.australianwildlife.org/rare-footage-of-fighting-mulga-snakes-recorded-at-scotia-wildlife-sanctuary/ According to AWC ecologist Tali Moyle, who recorded the footage: “Mating season starts in early spring and the males start wrestling, attempting to push each other over to prove their dominance, for the right to mate with the females. Spot the cow! Yes mulga is a fantastic fodder source for livestock in dry times, but it's ability to grow readily, (and in very close quarters) from seed means it can be dominate landscapes, making it difficult to move through, and hard to find stock in. Even with aerial support, we missed a lot of cattle last muster, particularly in one paddock, so we've been gathering them up gradually, as we find them. This little mob were at a trough when the Boss spotted them. We were walking young cattle t

Most of the trees you see here are Mulga trees (Acacia aneura), which cattle start browsing more as the season gets drier. Mulga leaves are high in protein, but the tannins in the leaves make it very hard for cattle to assess this. Feeding them a urea based lick helps feed the good bugs in their gut that work on breaking down the leaves so they can utilise some of this protein. Cattle are ruminants (have 4 chambers or stomachs) and able to chew their cud to help break down the tough leaves, so w

The beautifully coloured mulga parrots congregate around a water source after patiently waiting their turn. They do this each day at around 7 AM, says Ruth Sandow, who lives on a station property 200 km north of Broken Hill, NSW. "We have been having very hot weather, and it is extremely dry," she says. "We always have a number of mulga parrots around but the season is forcing more in close to our waters." | Australian Geographic

The Purple Mulga Moth or Two-spotted Line-blue is actually a butterfly and one of the most common butterflies in Australia. Partially prevalent in hot arid inland areas, hundreds of these butterflies can be seen flying around individual Acacia trees when in bloom. Usually active in the mornings, hundreds of males can be seen slowly fluttering below a height of 10 cm beneath an individual Mulga tree (Acacia aneura) waiting for the females to emerge with which they can mate. Drought tour: Mulga scrub would save the herd GRAZIERS in drought-stricken inland southern Queensland could see immediate benefit should the State Government support KAP Leader and Member for Traeger Robbie Katter’s Vegetation Management Bill which would allow farmers to trim the region’s 61 million acres of mulga vegetation and feed their starving cattle. There was overwhelming support in Charleville for Robbie’s Vegetation Management (Clearing for Relevant Purposes) Amendment, which was introd

Yesterday was inclined to be one of those days. We decided to try to get over the creeks to where most of the sheep are living. First creek, no problem. (Found a loner bull still in the house paddock. He's a bit myall, and the Boss got out to chase him out from under a tree. He also leapt back into the car quite swiftly, and the bull didn't quite hit the Bear. That bull is an arsebite and that's why he wasn't put out with the cows this year. We did get him out into the next paddock though.) Seco
