I started painting with inks about 5 years ago on my dining room table whilst my two babies were asleep because that was the only time I had! Back then I never thought I would now be creating art, content and courses for artists who are exactly like me! Too much skin! That's what they said when they saw this painting. "Portrait of Madame X" was painted by John Singer Sargent in 1884. The subject was Virginie Amélie Avegno Gautreau, a wealthy American living in Paris. She was famous for her beauty and eccentric style. Sargent wanted to make a name for himself in the Paris art world. At the time, portraits of society women were common—but modesty was expected. In the original version, one jeweled strap on her dress had slipped off her shoulder. T
